In January 1997, the Employee Development University team rolled out the seven Program Tracks™. Golden State Water Company's employees now have the opportunity to enroll in a more structured, quantifiable training program. The Program Tracks™ are all part of the company's vision of making employee development at Golden State Water Company not solely a training program, but a Corporate University Program. EDU's Program Tracks™ will allow employees to accumulate coursework that ultimately will lead to a certificate of completion in a specific business function. Selected courses will bear continuing education units (CEUs) endorsed by a national accreditation body called the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). The Corporate Dean is also working
with the American Council of Education, (ACE-PONSI)
to review several courses for college credits.
Our Program Tracks™ are linked to the company's
major business functions. As such, employees will be trained
not only for personal development, but to be more productive
in business initiatives. "This direction will put us on
the cutting edge for employee education in the workplace. If
we are going to continue as a leader of employee development
programs in our industry, then we need to determine how
training efforts are transferred to performance improvement.
The Program Tracks™ will allow employees to enroll in a
structured learning system where they will know exactly what
and how many classes are required in order to achieve a
certificate in a specific job. With the demand for
performance improvement and accountability, the EDU staff
will serve as performance consultants to help employees to
transfer new skills in the workplace and at the same time
show how training efforts can contribute to business
goals." Diane D. Rentfrow, Vice President, Human Capital Management
